The Las Vegas Kart Club was founded in 1959. As one of the oldest Kart Clubs in the United States, the best karting drivers come to our concrete track to race. Located at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, we are the valley’s only outdoor karting facility. From 5 year old kids to 80 year old adults, LVKC is the place to be!
Karting as it is popularly known was first started in 1956, when an American, Art Ingells built the first Go-kart for his son. It was built around a lawnmower engine, using a rope steering wheel. Since then Karting has come a long way.
Karts vary in speed and some can reach speeds exceeding 160 mph (250 km/h). A Formula A kart, with a 100 cc 2 stroke engine and an overall weight including the driver of 150 kilograms, can accelerate from 0-60 mph in under 4.5 seconds, and has a top speed of 85 mph (140 km/h). It takes a little more than 3 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph with a 125 cc shifter kart (6 gears), with a top speed of 115 mph (185 km/h) on long circuits.
Most Formula1 drivers started their careers with karting, like Mika Hakkinen and Michael Shumacher. Karting is the first step to motorcar racing and is commonly perceived as the stepping-stone to the higher and more expensive ranks of motor sports.
